Drawing has a rich tactility and immediacy which is responsive and insightful; spanning its intimacy to accessibility. The direct nature of drawing; the rapidity, spontaneity, boldness of line and mark making, builds a luscious surface with a sense of light and space.

Bringing the image close to the maker and viewer (through medium and scale); leaving a human trace in the surface; drawing you in; these images re-establish the domesticity of the original subject through a new process.

Intentionally ambivalent; structure and colour take priority over subject, aiming to create a tangible open narrative for audience’s free interpretation. This celebrates the individuality of the viewer to enchant and entice through a dialogue with surfaces (and our preoccupation with surfaces in contemporary society). This intervention with surface and ideas of ownership/authorship and structure explore myth as they explode narratives and balance - between universal and private mythology - in an effort to entice the viewer to the work and between content and process.

Man is a fragile species. Our actions are fleeting, our impact long term. The work aims to show both the transition of our culture but also of our interaction with our environment – what we give, what we take and what we leave behind.

Details that are domestic and lo-tech in form become appropriated in their surface and stories. The found object is nostalgic and in shadow. Through a new interpretation these obscured artefacts become re-enchanted: what was once a trace of day to day urbanity becomes magical and glorious.

Inducing an intimate, yet alien tactility through intervention with the fragmented surface connects between universal and private mythology. This effort to entice the viewer’s interpretation of the work blurs the definition between content and process.

Using sewing, painting and drawing to create luscious and tactile surfaces, I hope to expose a desire to ‘make do and mend’ through the humdrum existence’s beautiful alternatives and opportunities – wallowing in the mystery of the recycled materials lost narrative.
